Extract the ZIP
Right-click the downloaded ZIP, choose Extract All, open the extracted folder.
Power on the plane and plug in the autopilot
Micro-USB to your computer. The plane must be powered on — the order doesn't matter. Close Mission Planner or any other ground-station software first.
Work down the three steps in the app
Detect the autopilot, flash the firmware if the firmware version has changed, then write the parameters. Firmware and parameters are separate actions — a parameters-only update takes seconds and never touches the firmware.
Windows says it "protected your PC"
- This is a standard Windows notice for newly downloaded apps, not a problem with your computer.
- Click More info, then Run anyway. The app only talks to your Cube over USB.
The app says it can't find the firmware and parameters files
- Don't run the app from inside the ZIP file. Right-click the ZIP, choose Extract All, then run Autopilot Updater from the extracted folder.
- The firmware and parameters files must stay in the same folder as the app — if you moved the app somewhere else, move it back or re-extract the ZIP.
What the parameter list is showing me
- Step 3 reads what is on your autopilot and lists every parameter that would change: its name, the value on the board now, and the value the update would write.
- Ticked rows are written; unticked rows are left exactly as they are. If you have your own settings for a payload or a sensor, untick those rows and they survive the update.
- Per-board calibration — compass, accelerometers, airspeed zero — starts unticked, so it is kept unless you deliberately tick it.
- Select all ticks or unticks every row at once, and holding Shift while clicking a tick box sets everything between it and the last one you clicked.
- Double-click a new value to type your own instead. It turns yellow so you can see it came from you, and the arrow next to it puts the file's value back.
The app can't find the autopilot
- Make sure the plane is powered on — it doesn't matter whether you power it before or after plugging in the USB, but it must be on.
- Close Mission Planner / QGroundControl — they hold the Cube's USB connection and block the updater from using it.
- Use a micro-USB cable that supports data — many are charge-only. Try a different cable if in doubt.
- Still stuck? Try a different USB port on your computer, then unplug and replug the Cube.
